The amount of money I would pay to go back twenty years ago could pay my rent a million times. Speaking of rent, mortgage and or property taxes, why don’t they teach you about that in school? To busy contaminating our brains with standardized testing material like that’s the end all be all. Twenty years ago I was a string bean; little brown skinny girl with the nappy hair and the big bell pepper nose. I have a smile that you are sure to remember though. Growing up I got along with most people, I don’t know why. I think I’m pretty weird, others happen to think I’m pleasant and sociable.
The world was all sunny days and fresh squeezed lemonade at nine years old. No rent, no car notes, no kids, no heart breaks…not a worry in the world. You could let that back seat window down and let your hair blow in the wind, jamming to your favorite song while on your all expenses paid vacation. Playing games and telling jokes to pass the time by, Punch Buggy, Eye-Spy, and the demeaning racially judgmental black man, white man, Chinese man jokes. You had to have a different type of humor to appreciate jokes like that if you have never heard one before, they can get a bit explicit. At nine years old it never dawns on you how those jokes would later define why our world today is screaming BLACK LIVES MATTER, WHITE LIVES MATTER, and BLUE LIVES MATTER. Yes we are all different but when we take a look at apples and apples we are all essentially trying to accomplish the same goal. Really and truly people ALL LIVES MATTER. I’m not getting any younger and I don’t know about you but the older I get the less I want to hear about people dying. I don’t care what color your skin is. It’s scary imagining that somebody may shoot you just because you don’t look like them or because your beliefs aren’t like theirs.
When I was nine I was banking on being the first female NBA player. I watched Chris Webber, Allen Iverson, Hot Sauce and The Professor from the And 1 Mix Tapes. I was never truly a fan of women’s basketball I just so happen to be a girl so I played by default. Yep, that was twenty years ago about 19 years ago it felt just like yesterday, Lol. Now here I am resurrecting my famous college blog Thomas Talk because now at twenty-nine I am very aware of things I wish I would have known at nine years old. I’ve triumphed a few of life’s realities and want to share my accomplishments, lessons learned, and give some friendly advice to motivate you along your journey. Please follow me as I open my heart and brain to enlighten you. As Thomas Talks you LISTEN!
