This morning I wanted to run..
My Alarm went off at 4am I rolled over, cut it off, and immediately went to the restroom. Sitting on the toilet dreading my run and thinking of the safest route around my neighborhood at this time.
This morning I wanted to run....
I contemplated heavy on walking out of the door considering the dangers of the world and the color of my skin. I am a black woman. A lot of people mistake me for a guy sometimes. I don’t know if I would get taken advantage of more if they thought I was a guy or a girl. So maybe I should wear my hair up and not down? BRIGHT CLOTHES. I can’t forget bright clothes because with my brown skin people won’t see me when it’s dark. I want people to see me, right ? I need people to see me.
This morning I went for a run.
Apple Watch? Check.
Water bottle? Check.
This morning I went for a run.
Free as a bird. Wind whistling on my chocolate skin. My feet grinding the pavement. Music anointing my every step as fearless energy gathered around me. I felt powerful, relentless, and joyful.
This morning I said fear not black girl;
Learn while you have a brain,
pray while you have knees
run while you have legs.
Let no one steal your joy.
This morning I ran

The moment you start to feed your focus and starve your distractions that is the moment you will accomplish your goals, one by one. Earlier this month Voyage Dallas Magazine reached out to me for an interview and I was as thrilled as anyone would be. To know in such a short time in Dallas I have made an impact on many lives and local brands in the area. I am so happy to be living out my purpose and achieving what some think is impossible. I can assure you that all things are possible. Click on the picture above and that will take you to my interview. Thank you so much for reading and following my life's journey.
GO Black Boy GO! is what many African Americans are saying right now as the movie ' US' reports 70 million at the box office in the opening weekend. I have been waiting on it since I seen the previews for it during this past Christmas holiday. I was not sure if it was horror or suspense but either way I was excited to jump out of my skin. Usually in horror films the black people are the first to die but here Jordan Peele lets us LIVE. And living is what we must continue to do as this film has a deeper message than simply being afraid of shadows. Jordan takes a very controversial bible verse Jeremiah 11:11 to help us understand the movie in greater detail.
KJV Jeremiah 11:11 Therefore thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.
To me this verse says we must obey the laws of the world or God will bring an evil upon the earth that we can't escape. That evil in this movie that we can not escape is our own shadow. We are steadily battling ourselves in this thing called life. We have an internal battle with our thoughts and decisions we make in our everyday life. Sometimes our biggest fear is ourselves and we don't even know it. Overall the movie was great. It offered suspense, humor, a bit of horror and a message that you may interpret different than me. I highly recommend you go see this film. Go Black Boy GO!
In my best Jaimee Foxx Voice..."Now usually I don't do this but ugghh..." lol. I must say that some people and some agreements can be very unreasonable. I've suffered long enough. If you are reading this. This is a review on the apartment complex in the title. The address is 396 E Southwest Parkway, Lewisville, TX 75067 the current property manager Elisha and Regional Manger Mary are to be nice a few 'biotches' in my personal opinion. SIMPLY DO NOT MOVE IN HERE! It is a complete waste of money! I was hoping it wouldn’t come to this. But they made me do it!! I am flabbergasted at the way I was just talked to by the Regional manager of this property owned by Spectrum properties her name is Mary. And as a matter of fact there aren’t to many nice people that work at or for this property. Daisy (On site Leasing Agent) is the only thing this property has going for it at this current moment but she's leaving in a week. Otherwise, this place is full of pest...roaches and ants! Don’t believe the online photos as NONE of these units have stainless steel appliances! I have lived here for 2 years and still reside here. In 2 years I have had nearly 25 packages stolen off my door step, I have had the pleasure of marijuana smoke lingering through my ventilation on numerous occasions. My neighbors leave trash outside their door. And o get this !!! Fitness center equipment rarely works. Pools stay dirty even during the summer. There was in fact a shooting on this very property in building 22. Also, TWO MURDERS within the last 4 months that happened right across the street from the complex at the Liquor store and Valero gas station. (You can look those up in the local news.) The visitor parking here is ridiculous especially if you live on the backside of the apartment. This area is the worst part of Lewisville and this apartment complex is the worse in this area. After signing a renewal in December the 2nd murder occurred and I couldn’t fathom living here another year because stray bullets don’t have names on them. I asked to rescind my contract that had not started yet and they have the nerve to say I need to follow the lease agreement and pay a reletting fee. What happen to providing a clean and safe environment for me to live?? What happen to honesty and looking out for the best interest of your tenants? Mary was very unreasonable. And you may ask well why did you stay 2 years...my first year I moved from Florida and the pictures online got me stuck here for the first year, when I moved nothing was like the pictures online. My water was brown for the first week. My shower tiles completely came off the wall while I was taking a shower. It took them 2 weeks to fix my shower and they expected me to not shower for 2 weeks.I had to ask for a key to another unit to shower because nobody offered ! I also had pest and appliance issues my first year. The 2nd year I was not in the financial state to move to a better area at the time so I signed a 12 month lease and fulfilled it. Now I have the means to move and just want to simply rescind a lease that has not even gone into effect yet! Clearly they want me to jump hoops. If you find yourself in this situation in Texas a great resource is Txtenants.org They offer lawyers and other helpful information. I can be found at @thomas_talks on Twitter and instagram. Ps. Don’t believe the recent 5 star reviews you may see on google ...again I’ve been living here the past 2 years and never seen any of those faces. Must be corporate trying to get some cool points. This place is like bottom of the barrel. Nobody in their right mind will give this place 5 stars! Easily 1-2 stars. I asked the property manager and Mary if I were their daughter would they want me staying here and they both said NO! They may be the cheapest but remember you get what you pay for. Plus if you go to apartment locators they will help your find something around the same price but it will be gated community, no pest and safer environment. I wouldn’t recommend this place to the homeless or my worst enemy!
"Stay ready so you don't have to get ready." Uncle Snapper told me that one day. I was probably a kid. Of course I didn't understand but I agreed. "I'm always ready Unc!" Yep, that sounds about right. Ms. Always Ready GiGi. It comes a point in all of our lives where we must consistently be on our 'A' game. It is now more important than ever to be one step ahead of your competition. In this blog I am going to give you two viable tips on how to STAY READY.
- Create a Better Morning!
Before you go to sleep at night prepare your life for the day ahead. Lay out your clothes, pack your lunch and breakfast, create a plan, create a to-do list, keep a calendar. All of these things will improve your mornings and create a great start to the day. As kids my parents told my siblings and I to always put out our clothes for the next day. It wasn't until I became an adult that I realized how important this is to start my days off right. Selecting an outfit is probably the most stressful thing to deal with in the morning when you don't have kids. If you have kids then kids is definitely more stressful but you get my point. You can change the energy in your world by creating a morning that is well put together versus waking up to chaos.
- Learn to Save money effectively!
Open a savings account, invest in a Roth IRA, get a whole life insurance policy, make sure you're properly insured, and stop living beyond your means. Most people can't stay ready because they have no control over their finances. Everything is all out of wack. We have to learn how to effectively save money without spending every dime to our names. If we learn how to save then we're always prepared for life's tragic moments. Try to keep 3 months rent in the savings, your credit card balance low and make sure you are insured properly so you don't find yourself paying for unnecessary law suits.
Now that you know how to stay ready...go make some changes in your everyday life. Yes ...RIGHT NOW DAMMIT! STAY READY SO YOU WON'T HAVE TO GET READY!
Who said you can't enjoy brushing your teeth. The dental industry is worth over 30 billion dollars. You can't put a price on a beautiful smile. Everyone is looking for that Kodak moment to be one to remember. Growing up as a kid I looooved brushing my teeth. There was almost no better feeling. Morning, noon and night it was a ritual and has been for all of my life. I brush often, I floss often and I also switch my toothbrushes every 2 months. I have never missed a beat when it comes to my dental appointments. A lot of people always compliment me on my smile. Well, I can't wait for the continued compliments because I've come across the ultimate dental game changer. During Black Friday this year I ordered a $300 Sonic toothbrush for $30 on the Groupon App. Best dang tooth brushing experience I’ve had in 30 years. I literally had a mouth orgasm. I didn’t even know my mouth could release like that. I am so serious! I will never use any other kind of toothbrush ....EVER! It was worth every penny and I see why people spend $300 on just a toothbrush. The vibrations were silent and very intense. The sonic has 3 settings. One of the settings is meant to massage your gums; that’s the best part right there. You have to use all three levels in one setting though. It will make your toes curl and your eyes roll to the back of your head I swear! My teeth were shinier than ever after just the first use. I’m about to go brush my teeth. Y’all have a good day and if you're not using the Sonic then your mouth can not be clean. 😂😂
First and foremost I want to say blessings to all black families who have lost a brother, cousin, husband, uncle, father, or best friend to the system that we are supposed to call JUST. When I first heard of the Kalief Browder story I was not shocked or surprised at all. His story is very similar to stories you and I hear about everyday. Black boy, born in the system, wrongfully arrested/accused, sent to prison as a minor to await trial where he was physically abused and held in solitary confinement over 65% of the time.
Kalief's story did not surprise me as much as the story behind New York's own, Riker's Correctional Institution did. Riker's is not a correctional institution at all. It is a building for animals both inmates and correctional officers alike together in one space creating complete chaos. The physical, mental, and verbal abuse that one endures in that environment will drive one sane person completely insane. And that's exactly what it did to Kalief. Allegedly, Riker's was named after Abraham Rycker, and when he died his descendent Richard Rycker took over and became infamous for abusing the Fugitive Slave Act of the 18th century. In a nutshell Riker's was ran by white guys that abused white privilege and it became a cycle at this institution for centuries. The building should be burned to the ground. Can you imagine how many bodies must be underneath that ground or in the water around the island?
I was pleased to know that Jay-Z played an executive director role in the film which I thought was very noble of him. I appreciate when people in higher positions can step down to help their community. Sometimes I don't think celebrities realize how much their presence has a greater impact on society than even the President. I did however find it a bit awkward for the movie to have been produced by The Weinstein Company where Mr. Harvey Weinstein has been accused of sexual harassment. You know all business is not good business Mr. Shawn Carter. On the bright side the story of Kalief was told and shared with the world. I guess if it means partner with a sexual offender we should exploit our black brothers. 🤔
I also did not care to see Mr. Al Sharpton in the documentary. My skin crawls every time I see him or hear his voice. Him and Jesse Jackson need their black card revoked. But of course there he was taking up for the female African American judge who was assigned to Kalief's case the first time. She never looked into his case and kept pushing his court date back making him spend more unnecessary time behind bars. A $40 million dollar civil lawsuit on New York will sure bring the phony out of some of our pro-black activist.
What Kalief went through at Riker's prison in New York, there are a thousand more stories just like it. Unlike many others Kalief did not take a plea deal to get out of jail. He declined 13 plea deals in three years to prove his innocence and get justice not just for himself but for other inmates as well. As a youth he was put in a facility that was to mature for his brain. The days in solitary confinement and constant abuse drove him to suicide. Trust me when I say the spirit of Kalief Browder will live on forever and haunt the souls of those who partook in his demise. His courage will be remembered and his story will live on. Rest In Heaven Kalief.
The documentary can be viewed on NETFLIX.

Let's start with his name as confusing as it looks it actually has a French ring to it. You have to hear the young fella pronounce it. It will tickle you. But the spelling just looks like a new age porn star honestly. I was scared to google it at work in fear that I would receive a porn-hub pop up. I have so many mixed feelings about this kid but as a poet and artist myself I do respect his craft. I will try my best to separate the artist XXXtentacion from the boy Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy.
Let me analyze this new album '17' that has struck up a lot of controversy from the lyrics to the visuals. He starts the album off with a disclaimer. He states that the entire album is a collection of thoughts, nightmares and real life situations. The album is 11 songs and 22 minutes long that's an average of 2 min per song. How many thoughts, nightmares and real life situations can a person fit into 22 minutes? That was my first thought. You know he has to be young if he can fit his life into 22 minutes. I need about 22 years to tell you about my 30 years on this earth.
Jahseh is also from Florida and I have a soft spot for all my Florida artist because I'm from Florida too and I support all my Florida people climbing the ladder to success. I always tell people it's to hot in Florida. The heat will create anger in you. This guy act like he was left in the heat too damn long. When listening to his music I don't know whether to kill somebody or kill myself. The sad part is that I only think about killing when listening to him. The teacher in me immediately notices his short comings though. Clearly this little boy is disturbed. I don't even have to know where he grew up at to understand that he probably didn't grow up with both parents in the house. With one parent absent he is missing some valuable lessons in life. He is also probably battling anger management issues in which he becomes very aggressive.
XXXtentacion has a song with a very disturbing visual. The name of the song is called 'Look at Me'. This song is the more popular one that led to a lot of his celebrity status. You have to watch the video all the way through. I'm just going to spill the beans. At the end of the video a little black boy hangs a little white boy with a noose. Not only is this racially disturbing but XXXtentacion is not African American. So again my young boy what was the purpose of this video and song that don't match? You are of Indian, Egyptian, German, Jamaican and Italian decent. You can't pick sides in this racial battle sir. Please have several seats.
We all heard about your girlfriend who you allegedly abused as well. Knowing what you rap about and your past upbringings. I would say it's not far fetched to call you guilty buddy. I hate to say this but if you don't channel all that negative energy into positive immediately then you're going to make yourself a male African American statistic. Look at his recent altercation with the Migo's. This XXXtentacion character is a hot mess.
There's no easy way to say that you are at a point in your life where everything seems stagnant. Everyday is the same day. You have built a routine that is quite boring to say the least. Well, that's because you don't have a purpose. You have lost your mojo. You accomplished one goal and you think you are complete. Unfortunately, that's not how success happens.
Success is a 'Lifetime Grind'. There is no stagnation in the journey to success.
Corporate America can make you stagnant. I work with so many people that carry this stigma about themselves that says the word COMFORTABLE! When on the journey to success you have to do things that make you feel uncomfortable. So many of us have dreams of getting back to the things that we are passionate about. I hate working for other people not enjoying my passions; it's draining. Remember as a kid you wanted to be and do all of these amazing things you see other people do today and you secretly wish that was you ?
well, GUESS THE FUCK WHAT?!
THAT IS YOU! That is your old energy feeding into someone else's soul; powering them and driving them to be that overly accomplished person. Those are all of your thoughts and ideas rambling in their head doing what you know you can do too. Where did your drive go? Look into the mirror and ask yourself are you finished or are you done? That friend or colleague that you envy so much is not finished nor are they done.
There's a mountain in the valley and from where you are standing that mountain is taller than the rest. You set a goal to climb the tallest mountain in the valley. You finally accomplish that goal just to see a million other mountains just as tall and taller than the one you just climbed. What do you do?
Everyday of your life is an all out GRIND! There is no end to your chaos. There is no way to stop the roadblocks. You get up and you must approach everyday differently. Spiritually, emotionally, physically and mentally change your dynamic to equal the energy that you want to receive back from the universe. All things are possible. Make your grind your life!
