Billboards, magazine ads, radio scripts, mobile apps and mass emails are all ways to help market your business. In 2016 one of the most popular marketing tools is online and mobile social media. Every established business is utilizing mobile devices and social media in order to connect with its consumers in a more effective manner. CVS has an app where you can fill your prescription from your mobile phone or tablet and in no time you will receive notice when to pick up your prescription. From the same app you can upload pictures from your phone and have them sent to your local CVS store to be printed in the quantities and sizes of your choice. The app is your local drug store, simplified. This allows customers to be in control of there drug store needs.
Not only have drug stores caught on to the social media change but insurance companies, airlines, fitness centers, and my personal favorite, banks. How amazing it is to be able to throw away your check book stubs and your registrar book? At your finger tips you can manage all deposits, withdrawals, transfers (foreign and domestic), fraudulent activity, and you can also make deposits. The demand for technical support must be increasing with social media on the rise.
You want to get your small business off the ground? You want to build a brand and reach different markets that you can't access in person everyday? Here are my Five Tips on Effective Social Media Marketing.
1) Join Networks. Of course you already knew this or maybe you didn't but I have noticed that most small businesses stray away from social networks and the main reason is because they do not have the time. PUT YOURSELF OUT THERE. Make it a priority to at least create a profile and add a few pictures. Keep it updated with location, hours of operation, phone number, etc. Major social sites like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn you definitely want to have but don't be afraid to try others. And yes you too can have your very own app. Try como.com, appsmakerstore.com, or appmakr.com.
2) Follow and Post. You and everybody else is looking for a the same amount of followers as Beyonce' and Jay-Z so help each other out. Follow back its only right. Post, Post, Post. IT'S FREE! Make a goal and see how many responses and or likes you can get from a post. Make your post worth reading. Most social networkers like current events so try to stay in the loop. Follow hashtags and mentions.
3) Unify Hashtags/urls/usernames: Utilize hashtags that represent your brand and get your followers to use it too, and unify all of your urls and usernames. For instance if your Facebook url is /nodaysoff then the rest of your urls should be the same. This makes you easier to find. Using hashtags allows you to keep up with your own post and make your post a trending topic. One of my common hashtags is #nodaysoff and something new I could try for the new year is #nodaysoff2016
4)Build a campaign. Before you started your business you had a plan so therefore before you start marketing online you should have a plan. Ask yourself some questions to figure out what will be best for you and your brand. What age group is your main audience? What image do you want to give the public? Think about things you retweet and post. Things you retweet means that you agree with it, be careful what you associate yourself with. Think about it like this, if you are apart of a democratic campaign you wouldn't retweet republican party information. Customize your profile pages. Make your profile pages and apps easy to read and easy to navigate.
5) Manage your post. How do you know where you going if you don't know where you're coming from? Take the first step in managing your post by engaging in whats called social analytics. Social analytics research measures your online activity. Or you can look at it as measuring how effective your post are by keeping track of your likes, retweets, shared links, etc. My favorite site to use is klout.com You can use klout for your business or for your personal use to manage your online social media influence.
